THE GOLF TOURNAMENT HAS RESCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 22, 2008.

South County Little League Golfers:

We are gearing up for our tournament. As of this point in time it looks as if we will have close to 100 golfers. Thanks for all of your efforts in making this happen.

The Shotgun Start begins promptly at 8am. Warm up with all of the driving range balls you can hit.

Please arrive early, allowing for us to process everyone through the check in portion of the morning, and for everyone to have time to eat, drink, and get ready for the day. Please remember to bring your checkbook!!!!

We will be offering Mulligans, "String By the Foot" to advance your ball closer to the cup, a 50/50 drawing, and a great day of fun.

Beverage carts will be in operation and there will be NY Strips for lunch, after the tournament.

We should have some giveaways, including Hats, Glory Days Gift Cards, Ft Belvoir Pro-Shop Certificates, and a few other surprises.

Little League Field Update

South County Little League needs your help!  The Park Authority is soliciting input on facilities at Laurel Hill Park -- the old prison grounds.  A baseball complex is planned for the site -- in the same general area as the Laurel Hill field we currently use at the corner of Hooes and Furnace Roads.  We learned last night that the park authority had not intended to target these fields for use by young kids and little leagues!  Instead, the current focus was on 90' fields that would be used for adults and special travel baseball teams.

As most of you are probably aware, South County Little League's main baseball complex is located at Lower Potomac Park just off Route 1.  As part of ongoing efforts to improve that facility, I met with representatives of the Board of Supervisors, the Park Authority, and the adjacent water treatment plant.  What I learned may surprise you -- it did many of us!  This baseball "Park" actually belongs to the water treatment plant  and was "temporarily" loaned for park use.  The land is to be used for expansion of the water treatment plant as population in the area grows.  Given growth rates in the area, expansion is likely in the near future.  Thus, if South County Little League is not included in the development plans for this facility, your children may have no legitimate fields on which to play -- despite the availability of a new facility being planned for the center of the league's boundary!
The League President -- Jim Orlick -- and I attended an open meeting last night to discuss park planning issues.  During this meeting, it was suggested that emails from Little League parents requesting that the new fields be designed to accommodate South County Little League.  Hopefully a grassroots effort by interested parents can league members can make a difference.
